CANOWIE ROAD, REDLAND
RESIDENTS' MEETING TO DISCUSS POTENTIAL INCLUSION IN RPZ
Residents' meeting held on 14th October.
At meeting
x11 present expressed their view that they wished Canowie Road to
be in the RPZ
x2 present were undecided
x1against
The majority of those attending wish to have Canowie Road
included in the RPZ
Specific issues raised and potential solutions discussed:
Issue 1: day and night congestion on Canowie Road
rather than just day, due to the volume of residential cars as well as commuter
vehicles using the road (high in particular due to the no.8 bus stop at the end
of the road)
Potential solution: an
extension of the hours that the RPZ would be enforced beyond 9-5pm to include
evening hours (e.g up to 9pm as in Hotwells) to enable residents to still park
outside their homes.
Issue 2: the
volume of cars vs width of road in Manor Park Road (which it was assumed would
also be included in RPZ with Canowie Road and St. Oswald's Road?)
Potential solution: an
individual approach to each road would be necessary such as
-
zoned areas of residents' parking rather than
demarcated spaces

the use of one-way systems to discourage
excessive traffic including
-
Canowie Road and St Oswald's Road one way from
Redland Road to Coldharbour Road (against the flow of commuter traffic)

Manor Park one way to ensure enough space for
both parking and access by emergency vehicles
Issue 3:
safety issues on intersection of Canowie Road and Manor Park Road

hazard in terms of both visibility for traffic,
safety for pedestrians and access for public service vehicles (including bin
lorries and emergency vehicles)
Potential solution: double yellow lines on intersection between
Canowie Road and Manor Park Road
Residents also wished clarification over
-
UWE's and Bristol University's policy over
students' access to resident’s car parking permits, due to the
number of student houses on Manor Park Road.

the council's policy regarding parking on
dropped curbs and in front of garages
